In 2009, Karen relocated to Perth and was admitted to the Supreme Court of Western Australia, followed by admission to the High Court of Australia in 2010.

Since 2009, Karen has practiced exclusively in Family Law in Perth, dealing with complex parenting cases, including cases where there have been allegations of abuse and family violence and cases concerning interstate and international relocation of children.

Karen has also gained significant experience in financial cases concerning property settlement, child support matters and spousal maintenance application.  This has included superannuation splitting orders or industry and self-managed funds, valuations of corporate entities and trusts and instructing forensic accountants and Single Experts.

Karen actively encourages parties to reach agreement in relation to both property and parenting cases, where possible, without the need for contested Family Court proceedings.  Karen has experience in representing parties at Mediation Style Conferences, designed to assist parties in resolving matters amicably and in a cost effective manner.

In cases where the involvement of the Family Court is required, Karen has extensive experience in representing parties in Family Court proceedings, and also instructing both Junior and Senior Counsel at trials concerning both property settlement and parenting matters.

Karen joined Bannerman Solicitors in February 2014 and works closely with Richard Bannerman, particularly in cases concerning larger property settlement matters.  She has recently qualified as an Independent Children’s Lawyer.

Karen is a member of the Family Law Practitioners Association of Western Australia, and the Family Law Section of the Law Council of Australia.
