Grant was admitted as a Barrister and Solicitor in the Supreme Court of Western Australia in 2019, having graduated with a Bachelor of Laws and a Graduate Diploma of Legal Practice earlier that year.
Working exclusively in family law since 2017, including as a Law Clerk and Paralegal prior to his admission, Grant has a comprehensive, ground-up knowledge of all aspects of family law, with a particular interest in complex financial matters.
Grant also practices in family law adjacent areas. He regularly appears in Family Violence Restraining Order matters in the Magistrates Court of Western Australia, and has appeared in appeals to the District Court of Western Australia, and in Guardianship and Administration matters in the State Administrative Tribunal (another area of particular interest for him).
Grant appreciates that litigation imposes a significant financial and emotional toll on families, and recognises the importance of looking beyond the black letter law and considering matters from a commercial, practical and emotional perspective. This is particularly the case in children’s matters where, regardless of the outcome, parents will ordinarily appear in each other’s lives for decades into the future, whether it be to attend school assemblies, university graduations, or weddings. Accordingly, Grant does his utmost to provide frank, no-nonsense advice and negotiate a resolution to matters quickly, amicably and at a reasonable cost.
Though an agreed resolution is the gold standard, Grant will not hesitate to litigate to bring about a just outcome or level the playing field for negotiations. Grant is passionate about advocacy and thrives in the courtroom environment, having been drawn to Bannerman Solicitors by their reputation as fierce and ethical advocates.
Grant has a predominantly private client base. However, he also takes on select Legal Aid matters with the intention of ensuring access to justice to vulnerable members of the West Australian community.
Grant is a member of the Family Law Practitioners Association of Western Australia and the Law Society of Western Australia.
